Team course project — my Sprint 3 tasks
Stock Trading Simulation
A multiplayer stock-trading game with live NYSE prices, portfolios, and admin-run games.
- Node.js
- Express
- MongoDB
- EJS
- Polygon.io
Overview and context
An educational full-stack stock trading simulation built by a student team (term-project-teamh, CS6905, Fall 2024). Players register, trade virtually against live NYSE prices, and compete on portfolio value; admins create games and announce winners. The application is a team effort — the contributions below are the tasks assigned to me in the final sprint.
Problem
Students and new investors need a low-stakes environment to practise buying, selling, and tracking a portfolio against real market prices.
My role and contribution
- Improved the overall look and feel of the application's interface.
- Added a portfolio performance chart so players can follow their progress over a simulation (built with dummy data).
- Fixed a Google reCAPTCHA display glitch on the login page across devices and browsers.
- Designed a new admin page for creating and configuring game instances.
Technical approach
- Node.js and Express server with EJS-rendered views.
- MongoDB for accounts, games, and portfolios.
- Polygon.io for market data.
- Work tracked through sprint Kanban cards.
Evidence and outcomes
- My four Sprint 3 tasks were delivered as part of the team's final release.
